GAINCITY MEGA STORE
Commercial Project
This project is to develop a new design concept for and existing Gain City Mega Store, located at 71 Sungei Kadut Drive 4th floor, Gain city was established in 1981 with a simple quest of lifestyles and a focused vision to be Singapore’s trusted air condition retailer. Today, renowned as Singapore’s largest air conditioner retailer, the brand is synonymous with excellent air conditioning installation and maintenance service provider. Since there is fierce competition in Singapore, they are looking for a design that set them apart from other stores in the region. They want the store to be compact, functional and inviting with spaces. In addition, the store should like a “Lifestyle”, “Warehouse Getting a cheap deal feel” store where furniture is arranged like an apartment with living room, bedroom etc. The design should give the customers a full experience and get inspired by the products. The idea is to provide customers with the best service and get them to see for themselves the benefits of the products.
CONCEPT
To set them apart from other stores in the region, creating the individual zones that demarcate each area with platforms and ramps is one of the solutions. Mostly the rectangular shape of the Geometric form will be used in this design. The idea of this is to give a warm and welcoming atmosphere to the customers. In this floor, there are two main sections as the DIY section and furniture section. As soon as the customers get out of the lift, they will first see the DIY department. In this section, all the merchandise are different and displayed inconsistently, so the atmosphere is essential to bring the customers. This style of layout provide the inviting environment to the customers and also allow the retailer to maximize the sale points.
However, in the furniture section, the designer would like to use the various height of platform and shelves for the customers to get more interest in shopping. For example, some of the platforms will be raised, and some of the shelves will be the indifferent height to get the floating effect. And in some area, there will be a showroom. The furniture will be displayed as in the apartment, with a different lifestyle, different insight and diverse atmosphere. To achieve those kinds of effect, various types of lighting will be used in different sections. For example, track lighting will be used on some merchandise. Only general light will be used. The will be a big entrance connecting the DIY section and furniture area. There will also be the use of technological gadgets such as a tablet or computer, which will show how people are using the products outside or where they can try matching the colour or pattern or the sets of furniture.
FLOOR PLAN

CEILING PLAN
In the ceiling plan, there will be LED-tube that is leading the customers to the counter and the entrance after the customers have finished purchasing. There will be a lot of track lighting to emphasis the merchandise. There are also different types of ceiling such as exposed, recessed and dropped ceiling with the other kind of materials: gypsum board, acoustic ceiling.
FOCUS AREA PLAN
The designer decided to use the finish as an epoxy paint with stone blend effect to achieve the DIY feeling. With the various shapes of gondolas which are arranged angularly for a more inviting atmosphere. For the shelving and the gondolas colour, the black, white and yellow have been chosen because the colour black and white is the most contrast colour in the whole colour wheel and the colour yellow(the authentic colour of Gain City Mega Store)will be popping out in the whole section. The cashier counter for the DIY section is also specially designed with the slanted replacement of yellow colour laminate.
